It’s intimidating and somewhat never-ending. You have all the right gear. You have been training for this for years. No, we’re not talking about climbing Everest. We’re talking about that mountain of laundry in your laundry room! This daunting task is one that will never go away, so we must learn to just dominate it! Here are some tips to help you tackle the chore!
Sort as you take off. This is by far the easiest way to stay on top of laundry! If you can get your gang to put their clothes in the appropriate piles/baskets, you will always have a load ready to toss in the washer!
Complete the task. You will never rise above the piles if you do not completely finish the task. As bad as we hate to mate socks, don’t throw them in a laundry basket and call it good. Mate them and put them away so the task is 100% complete.
Assign days. Each day you will wash a certain item. For example, Monday is socks, Tuesday is jeans, etc. Before long, the family will get in the routine of Socks Monday, Jeans Tuesday, etc. before the load is washed!
Assign tasks. Kids of every age can help with laundry! Little ones can mate socks or get the clothes out of the dryer, while older kids can start the washer and put the clothes away.
Don’t cave! If it’s Wednesday and your child desperately wants to wear their favorite pair of jeans but did not get them in the load of clothes on Jeans Tuesday, don’t do a special load. It is hard, but make them wait until the next round; they will have their clothes in the right spot from then on!
